  1. Ahhhh! Just the thing for a chilly January day. I am sitting here in a happy pepper/garlic glow (although, really, this is a fairly subtly spiced recipe.) Like all peas soups, this is better re-heated. I needed to add a bit more salt, probably because I used homemade, unsalted, chicken stock.

  2. I've made homemade soup with veg but put split peas in after soaking them fr 12 hours 4 hours later there still bit hard please help

  3. This is the easiest and best pea soup recipe I've found, I love it! I add ham or kielbasa and make it totally "no sodium added" except for those additions. I also add frozen mixed veg sometimes, too. Reminds me of a tin of store bought - flavour and consistency is perfect! (I also simmer this for a couple-few hours until it becomes thick, then take a potato masher to it before adding veggies and meat (if I do, it's great without them, too)).

  4. Love this soup ! I added a ham hock, shredded carrots , tin of reduced salt chopped tomatoes ! Used reduced salt vegetable broth, as the ham hock is quite salty ! My family loves it !

  5. Wow! It's a soaking wet, windy January day here in Scotland and this soup has just cheered me up so much. I had no hot sauce, so put in a bit of chilli powder and it's delicious. The peas could have done with cooking for a bit longer than recommended in the recipe, but that can be done next time. Mmmmmm!

Tweaks

  1. Easy to make and tastier than I expected. I used a fresh chili pepper instead of hot sauce, and didn't have quite enough chicken broth, so topped up with veg broth. I threw it all in the crockpot, and went to work. On my return, it was cooked to perfection. Thanks for the recipe!

  2. My husband said this was the best pea soup I have ever made - it certainly was the easiest! Instead of making it on the stove, I dumped everything into a crock pot and let it cook all day. I did increase the seasonings and used a fresh chili pepper instead of the hot sauce. This had a nice thick consistency and great favor. Thank you for posting - I'll definitely make this one again.
