Hot Mulled Cider - German Glühmost

Traditional hot mulled cider with white wine 'Glühmost', and the more common red wine version 'Glühwein' are served throughout the cold weather season, and are sold by-the-mug at outdoor Christmas Markets in Germany. Delicious!

Ingredients:

Serves: 8

Yield: 8.0 cups ap ...

• 4 cups dry white wine (such as Riesling)
• 4 cups apple cider
• 1⁄8; teaspoon cinnamon
• 1 pinch ground cloves
• 1 pinch cardamom
• honey , to taste
• fresh lemon slice , for garnish

Directions:

1. In a medium saucepan, combine wine, apple cider, cinnamon, cloves, and cardamom.
2. Bring to a simmer over medium-low heat (but do not boil).
3. Add honey, to taste, and garnish with a lemon slice.
4. Serve hot.

I used a dry white wine to make this. The honey was a welcome addition or the drink would have been quite tart. All in all, a delightful drink for a cold winter night. Made for Comfort Cafe- Snow Queen Round 01/10.

Oh, this definitely warms the cockles of your heart! I started drinking this yesterday morning, and I've got to say, it certainly got me started off on the right foot for cooking. I didn't have any Riesling, but used a Leibfraumilch. And I agree with KissKiss, the honey is definitely needed. Gives it a much smoother taste than without it. Thnx for sharing your recipe, BecR.
