I made this using basmati brown rice and oatmeal and barley. Like other reviewers said mine absorbed the water faster than 45 minutes even though I added some extra water in the beginning. I kept add some water to when I tested to see if it was done or not. Around 30 minutes all of the water was absorbed and everything seemed soft enough to serve. I took the serving suggestions posted for this recipe (soymilk I used vanilla, maple syrup and banannas.) I had also added some cinnamon and nutmeg while it was cooking. It was very good. I also halved the recipe and have some leftover for tomorrows breakfast I guess!

Really good and simple. At 20 minutes enough of the liquid was gone that I added another cup. It made quite a bit, too! I added a little butter and some raisins, but this is versatile enough to add lots of different toppings. I'll be making this again.

My family enjoyed this, and they are usually enthusiastic about hot cereal! I used brown rice, and found that it took only 20 minutes before all the water was absorbed. I served it then, with chewy rice and barley, but they enjoyed the different texture. We topped with brown sugar and lowfat milk. I will be making this frequently this winter, a great change from the normal oatmeal or cold cereal!
