Green Bean Compromise

"I don't know about you, but I really don't care much for plain old canned green beans. To make things more difficult, my family doesn't care for fresh or frozen green beans at ALL. We had to make a compromise. Here's what I do to please everyone; it has a bit of an Italian flair. I created this to go with Angel Hair with Balsamic Tomatoes, which it complements nicely. It has the added bonus of making canned green beans edible!"

  1. I tried this, substituting just a pinch of garlic powder for the cloves. just because that's the way I am...and it was really good! We only use canned green beans in this house.....too many memories of the summer job on the bean farm to look at fresh green beans! My family also likes green beans that have been cooked in chicken bullion broth. It really adds alot of flavor!

  2. Wonderfull.. I was looking for a way to dress up some last minute canned green beans and this did the trick..I will do this regularly and never have undoctored canned green beans again! :)

  3. Great way to spruce up canned green beans. I didn't tell my hubby that I had doctored them. When he pulled them from the microwave, he asked what I had done to the beans, I told him that I added a bit of garlic and some herbs (used fresh oregano from my herb garden). He said that they smelled very good. My husband seldom comments on the aroma of the food. I only used one can of french style beans, as there were only just the two of us. I had one serving, and he cleaned up the rest of the bowl. Thanks for posting.

  4. I thought this was a good compromise - a million times better than plain canned beans. A bit heavy on the lemon. Also, I added more garlic by mistake (about twice what is called for) and I liked the result.

  5. I made these for my husband & I think I've FINALLY found a great way to doctor up those boring canned green beans! I used 1 can of beans (drained) & 1/4 tsp jarred minced garlic. I only used 1 1/2 tsp lemon juice & sprinkled on some reduced fat mozz cheese at the end of cooking time. I didn't have them, but they smelled great & I can't wait to try the leftovers! Can't thank u enough for this recipe; will certainly make again!

Most of these I just don't make anymore and the few I do are only with big changes/substitutions. [Heart attacks? 0/10 would not recommend]
