Chocolate Oatmeal

"Yep...chocolate for breakfast. I created this recipe trying to get my grandkids to eat their oatmeal. Now it's my favorite way to fix this healthy start breakfast. I use my rice cooker to make oatmeal...fast and easy!"

  1. I made this in the microwave, scaled down to one serving. I used milk instead of water, omitted the blueberries and salt, and concocted my own "cocoa powder" using 1 tsp. cocoa and 2 tsp. sugar. (I would not recommend using straight cocoa in this recipe.) After tasting it, I added about a tablespoon more sugar. It was just a little bit more chocolatey than I'd like, being a milk chocolate person. So, next time, I'll try using 1/2 tsp. cocoa and 2 tsp. sugar. In the future, I am also considering tinkering with the addition of bananas OR just a little bit of orange juice, but not together.

  2. This was really good! I substituted milk for 1/2 the water and served it with maple syrup and additional milk.

  3. My kids really liked this (except for my 5 year old picky boy who doesn't like anything good for him) My daughter who refused to eat oatmeal in the past loved it. I'm not crazy about the chocolate part but they are eating a hot breakfast.....I may slowly cut down on the amount of chocolate. I used 1 tablespoon cocoa and 1 tablespoon homemade hot cocoa mix.

  4. This was horrible.....No taste and very gooey. Even after I added sugar. Threw the hole pot away.

  5. I thought this was a nice change from normal porridge, I cut down the recipe as only cooking for one & used milk for cooking rather than water for a creamier consistency. I used quick cooking oats & did it in the microwave so cut down the cooking time accordingly. I used Alpen Blend hot chocolate mix rather than cocoa & it turned out great, not too sweet but sweet enought that no extra sugar needed. Thanks Geema! Made for ZWT III - Britain/Ireland.
