    Smoky Okie's Note:

This sauce, while tasty in it's own right, serves as a good base for all tomato based sauces. Try adding a few other ingredients of your choosing to develope you own Utopian delight. Try adding things like L&P, more mustard, molasses, honey, garlic, cumin, chili powder, tomato paste, spices, etc. Whatever you add, you will most likely end up with a tasty sauce, and may even develop several different sauces to suit different moods. Have fun! Tim

As stated this is an excellent base recipe for BBQ sauce. I customized it by adding some chili powder, liquid smoke, onion powder, Worcestershire sauce and a little dried basil. I used light brown sugar because that is all I had on hand. I also reduced the amount of vinegar by 1/2 because it sounded like it would be too tangy with the amount listed. It turned out really good. I will definitely be using this recipe (with my additions) from now on! Thank you so much for giving me the starting point!

Excellent sauce. I'll start here and make my own custom sauce as suggested, but it's terrific right now. It's easy to make, quick to make and plenty of tang.
